The Project: Victorian Reno – Part 1
The Project: Victorian Home Renovation
The Property: A large Victorian semi-detached house in South East London
The Challenges: Once converted into three flats, the property was converted back into one household; however, some of the features of the previous configuration remain and need changing. An additional staircase that leads to an unused front door will be removed, which will make way for a new larger kitchen on the ground floor and another full bathroom on the first floor. Due to its age and some recent structural work in the property, the original plaster has deteriorated and cracked throughout most of the property, and will be replaced. Redecoration will follow, and then this house transformation will be complete!
The Brief: It’s a large property, but at the moment it feels unbalanced, with 4 reception rooms yet a small galley kitchen, and 5 bedrooms but only one full bathroom. The extension of the kitchen and the addition of a second full bathroom is going to give the property better proportions, and will also be far more appealing to potential buyers should the owners chose to sell the house in the future. They want to stay sympathetic to the era in which it was built, and so the décor will follow a clean and contemporary take on classic Victorian style. There are many multifunctional rooms, and they have a lot of specific storage needs, so meticulous space planning will be essential to make this project successful.
